Ideally, however, these components should be integrated directly during the fireplace installation, as cables and technical connections can then be routed behind the cladding in the simplest and most discreet way. Modern homes are now built so tightly that no air can flow in from outside. If, at the same time, installations such as ventilation systems, extractor hoods or fans blow air to the outside, negative pressure builds up in the living space. As the chimney then offers the path of least resistance, there is a risk that smoke gases will be drawn into the room.

A system such as Safefire continuously monitors the pressure difference between the living space and the chimney. As soon as the pressure in the chimney becomes too low, it switches off the responsible fans or allows air to flow in, for example by opening a window. This guarantees a fault-free draught in the chimney - even if building practice in relation to negative pressure sometimes differs from the theoretical SIA standard.

Yes, safety remains fully guaranteed. The Safefire safety system is designed to monitor the interaction between the fireplace and other technical systems in the house. Since in the event of a power cut all devices and fans that could otherwise create dangerous negative pressure in normal operation (such as domestic ventilation or the extractor hood) are already switched off, there is no danger to the chimney draught. In this case, your fireplace simply continues to burn in the traditional way, without any active intervention by the system being required.
